Dr Floor Christie has an MSc in Clinical Psychology from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Liverpool. She is in the final stages of a PhD in Public Health at Lancaster University, investigating barriers and facilitators to cervical cancer screening for overseas Filipino workers, a mixed methods study.
After many years of clinical practice with the National Health Service in the UK as a smoking cessation specialist and supporting adults suffering from depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder, Floor moved into academia, teaching online and on campus. She has lectured in both psychology and public health at international universities, and managed a large research project investigating breast cancer screening for Arab women in Qatar. Her research interests are women’s health, migrant health, cancer screening, inequalities, qualitative research and mixed methods.
Floor says: “Our MPH students and faculty are experienced health professionals from all over the world, nurses, physicians, pharmacists, social scientists and other professionals in the field of public health. The international perspective the students and faculty bring to the class is extremely valuable as they all come from settings that have different contexts and a variety of public health issues. This true global public health approach adds a tremendous amount of richness to the MPH that no textbook can provide”.
