Why did you choose to study online with the University of Liverpool?
I have been a distance learner from the beginning of my educational and professional career. I acquired several qualifications through distance or online learning, including my GCSE and A-level qualifications, UK professional diplomas in management, accounting and finance and my MBA. So studying online with the University of Liverpool, a foremost UK research university and an internationally recognised institution, was natural for me.

Has online study given you an advantage?
Combining work and study has been fruitful. I have more years of working experience and more professional and academic certificates than my mates who studied full-time and worked full-time after their studies. In fact many participants in my training courses marvel at the wealth of experience I share.

Did you study at home or in the office?
I have studied in many places as an online student: while travelling in buses, taxis, trains, airplanes, and in my own car whenever I was chauffeur-driven. I have also studied throughout nights, weekends and even during lunch breaks at work in order to meet my assignment deadlines.

What did you enjoy most about being an online DBA student with the University of Liverpool?
I enjoyed the cordial relationships I had with my doctoral tutors, with my student support managers, and with my fellow students. When I attended the residency in Liverpool, it added life to already established relationships. I now have professional friends in all parts of the world – thanks to the online learning platform and the residency arrangement.

What did you research for your doctoral thesis?
My research was in an aspect of human resource development: “Participatory evaluation, an action research intervention to improve training effectiveness”.

How was your experience of the viva voce oral examination?
The viva voce oral examination for my thesis was done using a video conferencing platform. I did it in a locked room of a five-star hotel adjacent to my office in Ikeja, Lagos. The internet connectivity was superb and hotel’s technical staff were handy and helpful.

How has your online doctoral programme helped you move ahead?
My online doctoral programme has really helped me to move ahead with what I know best – to develop capacity through sharing. It has really honed my experience in training, research and consulting.

What did it mean to you to finally graduate with your DBA in Liverpool?
Simply put, my DBA graduation in Liverpool was the climax of a life ambition. As a capacity builder, I believe I am with the University of Liverpool for life. My career is built around what the University stands for.

I would recommend the University of Liverpool because…
… of the reputation of the institution, its qualifications and the opportunity to achieve whatever height of education one wishes through online study.
