Mohamed Badi Derouiche originally comes from Tunisia but now works in finance in Dubai. He graduated with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a specialisation in Finance and Accounting having studied online with the University of Liverpool.

Why did you choose to do an online degree with the University of Liverpool?

The University of Liverpool appealed because it’s a very well recognised name, it has a long history and I had read some very positive things about the online programmes.

How did studying online live up to your expectations?

It more than lived up to my expectations as initially my main motivation was simply to get the qualification on my CV. But I soon realised that the information I was taking out the programme would help me hugely in my current role and future positions.

Was the programme practical and relevant to your job?

The teaching was practical, focused and very relevant. Much of the content was based on real life experience, while faculty often directed the classroom discussions towards areas of interest suggested by students.

What has been the highlight of studying online with the University of Liverpool?

The thing I enjoyed most was meeting people from different parts of the world via the online classroom. Students were in constant dialogue with each other, which was a really great way to collaborate and share experiences. I also enjoyed the academic content as it was relevant to my working life.

What were the challenges?

At times, working in a group could be challenging – particularly as we were in different time zones - but it’s important to remember that this also exists in our professional lives too, so it is all part of the learning experience. Fitting the programme into my day-to-day life was not easy. I studied when my kids went to sleep.

What are your top tips for others wanting to do an online MBA with the University?

Don’t underestimate it. Just because it is an online programme does not mean it’s easy. The programme is very demanding and you have to work hard to meet deadlines. So you need good time management.

Do you think this degree will help you shape your future career?

I have been using what I learnt in my day-to-day work since the first module, so this degree will definitely help me in aiming for more senior positions in my career.

The University of Liverpool Management School was recently recognized with AACSB Accreditation – do you think this will make your degree even stronger?

I’m very happy that the School has gained AACSB Accreditation. Having gone through the programme and learnt so much, I know for myself how good it is!

Finally, after studying online, how does it feel to graduate in person in Liverpool?

My Graduation Ceremony was a big milestone in my life as it was a culmination of my hard work over two and a half years. I enjoyed meeting my classmates and seeing the University where I’ve been studying.
