Nicola Huppertz graduated with an MSc in Project Management in July 2014. We contacted her after a year and a half to see what impact her degree has had on her career.
While completing her degree, Nicola was hired by Alberta Health Services, a public sector heath authority in the province of Alberta, Canada. She works with building construction project management teams throughout the province to standardise project management processes, tools and documents as well as to help troubleshoot project challenges and mentor team members. She also collaborates with government, construction and consulting agencies in the delivery of building related design and construction projects.
What impact has your online degree had on your career since graduation?
I was hired into this position prior to finishing my degree but I do feel that I was successful at getting this position because I was showing, through taking a MSc in Project Management, that I was committed to learning all that I could about the art and the science of Project Management.
Has your degree helped you to meet your personal and professional goals?
Most definitely, in fact graduating with merit in the MSc in Project Management exceeded my original goal. It revealed more about myself and what I am capable of accomplishing than I had ever imagined.
Do you use the knowledge and skills gained in your degree programme in your work?
The degree has given me the confidence that my knowledge and skills are founded on sound principles and processes. I miss having access to the University's library as I used to be able to find all sorts of solid legitimate research to confirm my initial thoughts on how to deal with project challenges.
Have you recommended online study with the University of Liverpool to friends or colleagues?
I have had a few people contact me with questions about the course and have recommended the course to a couple of my colleagues.
Has studying online been a good investment?
Yes, overall I would suggest the entire process of being able to study online has been an excellent investment. I have been able to continue to be with my family in Canada, work full-time and complete my degree. I would not have been able to do this if I could not access the course online. Further, being able to interact with people all over the world and learn from their incredible experiences, as well as having access to the high standard of faculty members that support this programme have been invaluable to my learning experience.
