Whether it’s running high-tempo fitness classes or coordinating projects for a vocational education company, focus is critical for Sabina King – which is one reason why she was so successful in completing her MBA online with the University of Liverpool.
Born and raised in London, Sabina is now based in the Middle East, where she works as a contracts and projects manager for Laureate Vocational Saudi Arabia.
Her return to study was unexpected. After a spell travelling the world, she settled in Dubai and started working for Laureate – where her focus turned to higher education. It was through the Laureate network that she heard about the Liverpool Online MBA.* She says: “Studying online while being able to work… there was flexibility to it, a lot of support, and it’s something that’s beneficial to the job I’m doing.”
A period of extensive research allowed Sabina to assess her options and find the course most likely to benefit both her current role and future career. With electives covering topics as diverse as finance, leadership, and management, the MBA has made her more confident in her corporate role – as well as helping her market herself as a part-time BODYPUMPTM instructor.
“The MBA covers almost everything,” she says. “All these skills that you’re picking up throughout the course are transferable into your current role. I use them on a day-to-day basis.”
Sabina is particularly proud of her dissertation, which looks at the practical steps that need to be taken for the Saudi Arabian government to fulfil the educational ambitions of its Vision 2030 national development plan. She focused on developing the ideal contract between the government and private companies for privatising technical and vocational educational training.
“The topic was close to my heart. Writing, researching and having the resources to get that information and address the problem was something of real personal value to me. Working in the education sector, I was able to have better insight and access students as well. Some of my research showing what students want has been used in presentations within my company.”
Sabina reflects on her online study with a sense of pride and accomplishment, and believes online education from the University of Liverpool does more than simply provide a qualification. “You’re in a collaborative, international class. It opens your perspective and broadens your mind, and you begin to understand how different nationalities think, interact, and even communicate with each other,” says Sabina.
