Originally from Hungary, Viktor Salakta now lives in Germany where he works as a Marketing Consultant for GfK. He studied online with the University of Liverpool and gained a masters with distinction in MSc in Management.What attracted you to studying online with the University of Liverpool for your degree?
The online study approach gave me enough flexibility in terms of time management and proceeding at my own pace. Laureate's partnership with the University of Liverpool is a good mix of the latest study methods and traditional education.What were the highlights and challenges you faced while studying?
It was a highlight to pass the first module, to gain that first experience of writing academic papers and to say “Yes, I am capable of doing this". Of course, this turned into a routine – the challenge then was to keep the pace and maintain attention and motivation. Reading, analysing, and discussing academic articles written by Nobel Prize winning minds was a challenge!What did you enjoy most about studying online with the University of Liverpool?
I really enjoyed learning from the latest books and being able to search for the most up-to-date academic articles in the University of Liverpool’s online library. I also liked the international classes and learning about culture-dependent insights on discussed topics.How has your degree helped you in your life and career?
This masters degree has helped me to revaluate my performance and gain more self-confidence and ambition. I have received a lot appreciation from my family, friends and colleagues at work.
The fact that I conducted a global survey within my company for my dissertation grabbed the attention of the top management to whom I was later able to present the results. I am sure that this degree will positively affect my career development in the short term.How relevant is the MSc in International Management for your current role?
The module on Managing in a Multicultural Context has helped me fine-tune the way I manage tasks and communicate across different countries. I also learned how to think critically and analyse topics strategically. This helps me daily when I write assessment papers or analyse new business opportunities.How has studying online with Liverpool affected your professional network?
I now have friends in countries I never had any contact with before, such as Norway, Jamaica and Saudi Arabia. I met a classmate in Germany and we’re now in constant contact. I am connected with the alumni community and I am curious to see if any international business ventures can be realised, based on a common study experience.How did it feel to complete your degree and graduate on campus?
I remember being in Barcelona on a business trip when I got the phone call with my final result - so the first reward was a very fine dinner there! I would highly recommend graduating in Liverpool to everyone studying online.
You can meet your fellow classmates in person and really get to know the city and campus with which you have been in a virtual contact for years.
