Online Postgraduate Certificate in Organisational and Business Psychology

Structure

The online Postgraduate Certificate in Organisational and Business Psychology programme consists of five modules. The first introduction module takes four weeks to complete and subsequent academic modules take eight weeks to complete.

Objective:

To provide an understanding of the core concepts related to online education with University of Liverpool Online and to help you develop the skills required for successful progression within the programme. Successful completion of this module is required to continue on to subsequent modules.

Description:

This module is intended to prepare students for successful online study as well as to ensure they understand the academic requirements associated with the programme. As a student, you will learn how to make the best use of the learning platform, to navigate the online classroom and the University of Liverpool’s online library confidently. You will also learn how to produce high quality academic work that draws on classroom materials, collaborative activities with peers and your own professional experience.

Curriculum

  • The University’s model of online learning, with respect to independent learning and continuing professional development
  • Collaborative communication of professional and academic concepts to fellow students and independently within formal assignments
  • Engagement with topical literature to develop academic arguments, carry out library research and reference sources correctly in the appropriate style
  • Self-reflection and application of feedback to improve future academic work
  • Development of an effective and realistic study plan, to anticipate the time required to complete a module successfully

Objective

To introduce students to the psychology and practice of successful evidence-based coaching and how to apply that knowledge in the field.

Description

This module looks at the latest research and developments in coaching and is geared towards helping students to develop professional coaching skills. As a student, you will evaluate the psychological theory that underpins coaching and learn to apply the latest thinking, research and development to coaching practice, while developing an awareness of the importance and challenges of evidence-based practice in coaching.

  • Approaches to coaching: positive psychology and coaching
  • Personal attributes of the performance coach
  • Mindset: how people see themselves and how that view encourages or impedes achievement
  • Resilience: responding quickly and constructively to crises
  • The coaching process, getting ready to coach and coaching skills
  • Coaching yourself through Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis
  • Leadership coaching: strengths, energy and positive leadership
  • Team coaching
  • Developing a coaching practice

Objective

To give students a detailed understanding of leadership from a psychological perspective. You will have the opportunity to develop the skills and experience to promote and support leadership within the workplace.

Description

This module explores leadership issues from a number of psychological perspectives, aiming to understand why some leaders gain strength and influence whilst others fail. You will have an opportunity to investigate the skills needed to promote and support effective leadership across different cultures and contexts.

Objective

To develop a thorough understanding of the psychological issues around global talent recruitment and management, and the impact and effectiveness of different selection techniques.

Description

This module explores the interaction between personality “types”, leadership and individual learning styles. As a student, you will evaluate the psychological evidence behind the concept of talent and explore the criteria for attracting, retaining and developing talent globally. You will also look at the effectiveness and fairness of different selection techniques and their impact at individual and organisational levels.

To introduce students to the key concepts around organisational development and change. You will have the opportunity to develop the skills and experience to design, conduct and access the most effective techniques to become a champion for successful change.

Description

This module aims to enable students to develop their understanding of organisational structure, processes and behaviour from the perspectives of the organisation, group and individual. As a student, you will have an opportunity to develop practical skills in identifying, analysing and creating structured approaches to change management and in managing organisational perceptions. You will evaluate different theories of organisational change and change management, and explore the influence of culture on change.
